What is a Pentalog?
A Pentalog is intellectual fast food in a five-words sentence combined with a corresponding random picture from the internet.
The term Pentalog is a neologism created by Patrick Samuël. It is composed of the two words penta (Greek five) and log (to record something). In his words:
In my daily ocean swim, I discover all sorts of things – few fish, lots of plastic – and flashes of inspiration. That’s how I got the idea to describe the world in five-word sentences. You can actually express everything with that. Less is more. This is how seawater becomes the inspiration in my Pentalogs.
Samuël gets straight to the point and distils thoughts into sentences with five words. Analog and without gimmickry.
To find corresponding images to the text, he feeds these sentences into the image search of various search engines. The logarithms often reveal bizarre results.
It is often amusing, but sometimes also disturbing,
the artist says. Finally, he processes the images on the computer and places them next to the text.
Pentalogs are thus a timestamp of personal ideas crossed with the logarithms of the internet universe. They are an artistic form to counteract sensory overload and stimulate imagination!

Was ist ein Pentalog?
Ein Pentalog ist intellektuelles Fast Food in einem Fünf-Wort-Satz, kombiniert mit einem entsprechenden Zufallsbild aus dem Internet.
Der Begriff Pentalog ist eine Wortkreation von Patrick Samuël. Er setzt sich aus den beiden Wörtern penta (griechisch fünf) und log (etwas aufzeichnen) zusammen. Mit seinen Worten:
Bei meinem täglichen Schwimmen im Meer entdecke ich alles Mögliche — wenig Fische, viel Plastik — und Geistesblitze. So kam ich auf die Idee, die Welt in Fünf-Wort-Sätzen zu beschreiben. Damit kann man eigentlich alles ausdrücken. Weniger ist mehr. So wird Meerwasser zur Inspiration für meine Pentalogs.
Samuël kommt direkt auf den Punkt und destilliert Gedanken in Sätze mit fünf Worten. Analog und ohne Schnickschnack.
Um passende Bilder zum Text zu finden, gibt er diese Sätze in die Bildersuche verschiedener Suchmaschinen ein. Die Logarithmen bringen oft bizarre Ergebnisse zu Tage.
Das ist oft amüsant, aber manchmal auch verstörend,
sagt der Künstler. Anschließend bearbeitet er die Bilder am Computer und stellt sie direkt neben den Text.
Pentalogs sind also ein Zeitstempel persönlicher Ideen, gekreuzt mit den Logarithmen des Internet-Universums. Sie sind eine künstlerische Form, um der Reizüberflutung entgegenzuwirken und die Fantasie anzuregen!

Qu’est-ce qu’un Pentalog ?
Un Pentalog est un fast-food intellectuel en une phrase de cinq mots combinée à une image aléatoire correspondante tirée de l’internet.
Le terme Pentalog est un néologisme créé par Patrick Samuël. Il est composé des deux mots penta (cinq en grec) et log (enregistrer quelque chose). Selon ses propres termes :
En nageant quotidiennement dans l’océan, je découvre toutes sortes de choses — peu de poissons, beaucoup de plastique — et des bouffées d’inspiration. C’est ainsi que j’ai eu l’idée de décrire le monde en cinq mots. En fait, on peut tout exprimer avec cela. Moins, c’est plus. C’est ainsi que l’eau de mer devient l’inspiration de mes Pentalogs.
Samuël va droit au but et distille ses pensées en phrases de cinq mots. Analogique et sans artifice.
Pour trouver les images correspondant au texte, il introduit ces phrases dans la recherche d’images de différents moteurs de recherche. Les logarithmes révèlent souvent des résultats étranges.
C’est souvent amusant, mais parfois aussi troublant,
dit l’artiste. Enfin, il traite les images à l’ordinateur et les place à côté du texte.
Les pentalogues sont donc un horodatage des idées personnelles croisé avec les logarithmes de l’univers internet. Ils sont une forme artistique pour contrer la surcharge sensorielle et stimuler l’imagination !
